Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Lima is known for parks, historic sites, museums, shopping, and nightlife. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: take an in-depth tour of Museo Larco, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, take a stroll through Miraflores, and shop like a local with Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar).

If you are flying in from Mexico, the closest major airport is Jorge Chávez International Airport. In January, plan for daily highs up to 31°C, and evening lows to 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Thu) early enough to travel to Cusco.

Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Fri): explore the ancient world of Centro Historico De Cusco, get engrossed in the history at Museo Quechua, and then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia De Santo Domingo. Here are some ideas for day two: steep yourself in history at Plaza de Armas and then explore the ancient world of Sacsayhuaman.

Traveling by flight from Lima to Cusco takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Lima in January: highs in Cusco hover around 22°C, while lows dip to 9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sat) so you can travel to Machu Picchu.

Hugging the western tip of Lake Titicaca, Puno serves as a melting pot of indigenous and imported cultures, and makes a great base for explorations around the region.
On the 22nd (Wed), step off the mainland to explore Taquile Island, get great views at Mirador Ing. Eduardo Sanchez, and then head off the coast to Uros Floating Islands. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 23rd (Thu): walk around Parque Pino and then explore the activities along Lake Titicaca.

You can drive from Copacabana to Puno in 2.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of car and bus; or take a bus. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from Copacabana to Puno. In January in Puno, expect temperatures between 20°C during the day and 5°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 23rd (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to La Paz.

Take a moment to catch your breath as you commence your holiday in La Paz.
