El Calafate tourism thrives mostly thanks to the city's proximity to a World Heritage-listed national park, famed for containing over 40 large glaciers.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Wed): identify plant and animal life at Patagonia Profunda - Safari Experience and then let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: look for gifts at Vellon Negro and then explore the activities along Rios de Hielo.

Take a bus from El Chalten to El Calafate in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Expect a daytime high around 58°F in January, and nighttime lows around 56°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Thu) to allow time to travel to Ushuaia.

Often called the "End of the World" because of its position on the southernmost tip of South America, the expanding city of Ushuaia serves as both a busy commercial port and attractive tourist hub.
Take a break from the city and head to Tierra del Fuego National Park and Lago Roca. Explore hidden gems such as Ushuaia Bay and Nature & Wildlife Tours. There's much more to do: step off the mainland to explore Isla Martillo, pause for some photo ops at Monumento Antiguos Pobladores de Ushuaia, see the world from above with a helicopter tour, and don't miss a visit to Unidad Postal Del Fin Mundo.

You can fly from El Calafate to Ushuaia in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or take a bus. Traveling from El Calafate in January, plan for little chillier nights in Ushuaia, with lows around 43°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Sun) early enough to travel to San Martin de los Andes.

Perched on the eastern tip of Lake Lacar, laidback San Martin de los Andes feels in tune with the nature around it.
On the 18th (Mon), contemplate the waterfront views at Lago Lolog and then head outdoors with Lago Lacar. Keep things going the next day: take in the dramatic scenery at Cascada Chachin - Hua Hum, stroll through El Bosque de los Huskies, then take in the dramatic scenery at Cascada del Arroyo Grande, and finally identify plant and animal life at Sendero al Mirador Bandurrias.
