Veracruz, officially known as Heroica Veracruz, is a major port city and municipality on the Gulf of Mexico in the Mexican state of Veracruz. On the 7th (Fri), learn about all things military at Museo Naval Mexico and then step into the grandiose world of San Juan de Ulua. Keep things going the next day: see the interesting displays at Museum of the City, see the interesting displays at Wax Museum of Veracruz, and then get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Acuario de Veracruz.

Getting from Mexico City to Veracruz by flight takes about 3.5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In May, Veracruz is somewhat warmer than Mexico City - with highs of 88°F and lows of 75°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sat) so you can travel to Merida.

Merida

Yucatan's busy capital, Merida remains a mid-sized urban center offering an impressive list of cultural activities, eclectic nightlife, and a chance to see tropical examples of French and Italian architecture.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Galeria Tataya and La Sala Art Gallery. Popular historic sites such as Uxmal and Iglesia San Antonio De Padua are in your itinerary. There's much more to do: view the masterpieces at Galeria La Eskalera, delve into the distant past at Dzibilchaltún, see the interesting displays at Gran Museo del Mundo Maya, and steep yourself in history at Merida Cathedral.

You can fly from Veracruz to Merida in 3.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Veracruz to Merida due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Veracruz in May, you will find days in Merida are a bit warmer (99°F), and nights are about the same (75°F). Finish up your sightseeing early on the 11th (Tue) so you can go by car to Tulum.

Tulum

The only Mayan site built to overlook the ocean, Tulum remains a coastal paradise preserving the last vestiges of a pre-Hispanic civilization.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Tulum Bazaar and El Burro Agavero Tequileria. Get some cultural insight at Tulum Archaeological Site and Sfer IK. When in Tulum, make a side trip to see Cobá Zona Arqueológica Cobá in Coba, approximately Coba away. There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Paradise Beach, stroll through Akumal Beach, explore the galleries of Balam Art On Feathers, and get engrossed in the history at Museo de la Prehistoria Parque Dos Ojos.

Drive from Merida to Tulum in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle; or fly. When traveling from Merida in May, plan for little chillier days and about the same nights in Tulum: temperatures range from 85°F by day to 71°F at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
