With 368 km (230 miles) of Atlantic Ocean coast, this is a region rich with picturesque ports, renowned seaside resorts, salt marshes, and a strong maritime tradition. As a vivacious region, it hosts two legendary races, the 24 Hours of Le Mans car races in June and the Vendée Globe sailing races in November. With five departments, the majority of the famous châteaux of the Loire Valley are located in the Centre region, and not in the Pays de la Loire, despite the name. However, you will be happy to find that the weather is mild, and conducive to biking, strolling, boating, and sightseeing around the region to discover its wealth of attractions, such as its vineyards and wineries from Saumur to Anjou.
