The capital of Lithuania, Vilnius, boasts an impressive medieval quarter--one of the continent's largest and a World Heritage Site with almost 2,000 historical buildings.
Popular historic sites such as St. Anne's Church and Cathedral (Arkikatedra Bazilika) are in your itinerary. Get some cultural insight at Trakai Island Castle Museum and KGB Museum (Genocido Auku Muziejus). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Gates of Dawn (Ausros Vartai), stroll the grounds of Vingis Park, take a stroll through Vilnius Old Town, and make a trip to St John's church.

Johannesburg, South Africa to Vilnius is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus. When traveling from Johannesburg in April, plan for cooler days and slightly colder nights in Vilnius: temperatures range from 13°C by day to 1°C at night. Popular historic sites such as Ninth Fort and Raudondvaris Dvaras are in your itinerary. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Kaunas Castle and Pazaislis Monastery.
