The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.

The resort town of Beppu puts the geothermal nature of the region to good use.
Visiting Mt. Tsurumi and Angel Kimono Rental Beppu will get you outdoors. Step off the beaten path and head to Ikeyama Springs and Mt. Kuju. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Beppu: Kokonoe-machi (Kuju Mountain Range & Tadewara Wetlands) and Kuju Highland (in Taketa). There's still lots to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Shidakako Lake, take in the natural beauty of Tsurunoyu, steep yourself in history at Yunohana Goya, and appreciate the views at Yufugawa Valley.
