The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
On the 14th (Tue), take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en Garden, explore the historical opulence of Himeji Castle, then don't miss a visit to Shoshazan Engyoji, and finally indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 15th (Wed): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Yoneda Taishiji Temple, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Takamikura, and then walk around Kunimi no Mori Park.

Take a train from Hiroshima to Himeji in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. April in Himeji sees daily highs of 20°C and lows of 14°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Wed) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.
