A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
You'll get in some beach time at Yonaha Maehama Beach and Sunayama Beach. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Aragusuku Beach and Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse. And it doesn't end there: enjoy the sand and surf at Toguchi no Hama, snap pictures at Irabu Ohashi, and see the vivid underwater world at Yabiji.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Mon): take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory, then visit a coastal fixture at Cape Hirakubozaki, and then stroll around Kabira Park. On the next day, stroll through Kondoi Beach and then kick back and relax at Yonehara Beach.

You can fly from Miyakojima to Ishigaki in 2 hours. Expect a daytime high around 38°C in July, and nighttime lows around 32°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Tue) to allow time to travel to Hiroshima.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Hiroshima in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. Plan for a bit cooler nights when traveling from Ishigaki in July since evenings lows in Hiroshima dip to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Fri) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Toji and Kofuku-ji Temple. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Himeji Castle in Himeji, about 1h 50 min away. There's much more to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple, get to know the fascinating history of Hieizan Enryaku-ji Temple, and make a trip to Gion.
