Kids will enjoy Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Tokyo Tower. Step out of Tokyo with an excursion to Ikspiari in Maihama--about 32 minutes away. Vancouver, Canada to Tokyo is an approximately 14-hour flight. The time zone changes from Pacific Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 17 hour difference. Traveling from Vancouver in March, you will find days in Tokyo are somewhat warmer (17°C), and nights are about the same (7°C). Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 21st (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Hakuba-mura.

Skiing enthusiasts traveling in Japan should consider a trip to Hakuba-mura: tucked away in the Northern Alps, this village hosted several competitions during the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Matsumoto Castle and Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort / Alpine Garden. Take a break from Hakuba-mura with a short trip to Shiraito Falls in Karuizawa-machi, about 2 hours away. There's still lots to do: hit the slopes at Hakuba Happoone Ski Resort, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Happoone, contemplate the long history of Aoni Shuraku, and hone your skills at Hakuba Snow Sports School.

Traveling by car from Tokyo to Hakuba-mura takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and bus; or take a train. In March, Hakuba-mura is a bit cooler than Tokyo - with highs of 11°C and lows of 3°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 24th (Tue) so you can go by car to Kanazawa.

Start off your visit on the 25th (Wed): make a trip to Omicho Market, make a trip to Kanazawa Higashi Chayagai Kaikaro, thenwander the streets of Higashichaya Old Town, thenstep into the grandiose world of Kanazawa Castle, and finally walk around Kenrokuen Garden.

You can drive from Hakuba-mura to Kanazawa in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or take a train. In March, daily temperatures in Kanazawa can reach 13°C, while at night they dip to 3°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Wed) early enough to drive to Kyoto.

On the 26th (Thu), explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle, thenadmire nature's wide array of creatures at Monkey Park Iwatayama, thenexamine the collection at Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum, and finally steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. On the 27th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kinkaku-ji, don't miss a visit to Gion, and then steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
