A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Kouri Island. There's lots more to do: enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, enjoy breathtaking views from Makiyama Observatory, take in the pleasant sights at Imugya Marine Garden, and step off the mainland to explore Irabu-jima Island.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
On the 11th (Fri), see what's hidden on the seafloor at Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour and then don't miss a visit to Euglena Mall. On the 12th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier, get outside with Kondoi Beach, Head underground at Ishigaki Island Limestone Cave, then head outdoors with Yonehara Beach, then walk around Kabira Park, and finally get great views at Cape Ongazaki.

Getting from Miyakojima to Ishigaki by flight takes about 2.5 hours. Expect a daytime high around 73°F in March, and nighttime lows around 65°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Sat) early enough to travel to Iriomote-jima.

Taketomicho Iriomote-Jima stands as the second largest island in Okinawa.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.

Traveling by combination of ferry and flight from Iriomote-jima to Yakushima-cho takes 11.5 hours. In March, Yakushima-cho is little chillier than Iriomote-jima - with highs of 63°F and lows of 52°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 17th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel to Nachikatsura-cho.

The town of Nachikatsuura-cho wows visitors with its superlative landscape and impressive cultural attractions.

Traveling by combination of flight and train from Yakushima-cho to Nachikatsura-cho takes 10 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and train; or do a combination of ferry and car. Traveling from Yakushima-cho in March, expect nights in Nachikatsura-cho to be about the same, around 49°F, while days are little chillier, around 58°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Sat) so you can go by car to Tokyo.

Traveling from Nachikatsura-cho in March, Tokyo is slightly colder at night with lows of 43°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
