Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
On the 26th (Sat), make a trip to Boraga Limestone Cave, explore the gorgeous colors at Yabiji, kick back and relax at Painagama Beach, paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, then take in the views from Irabu Ohashi, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Makiyama Observatory. On the 27th (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: enjoy the sand and surf at Tomori Imugya Beach, get outside with Marine Leisure Sports of Shigira Beach House, head outdoors with Sea Sky Hakuai, then enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, then don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape, and finally walk around Hika Road Park.

Newark, USA to Miyakojima is an approximately 22- hour flight. The time zone difference moving from Eastern Standard Time to Japan Standard Time is 14 hours. Traveling from Newark in December, expect Miyakojima to be much hotter, temps between 71°F and 64°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Sun) to allow time to travel to Ishigaki.

On the 27th (Sun), snap pictures at Southern Gate Bridge. Traveling by combination of ferry, flight, and bus from Iriomote-jima to Motobu-cho takes 6.5 hours. Expect a bit cooler evenings in Motobu-cho when traveling from Iriomote-jima in December, with lows around 56°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Sat) so you can travel to Yakushima-cho.

Start off your visit on the 3rd (Sun): take in the awesome beauty at Tachudake, get answers to all your questions at The Yakushima World Heritage Conservation Center, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Mocchomudake, take in the dramatic scenery at Janokuchinotaki Falls, then stop by Pontankan, and finally make a trip to Ambo Port. Here are some ideas for day two: walk around Yakushima Comprehensive Nature Park, don't miss a visit to Wilson Stump, identify plant and animal life at Okinasugi, then stroll through Sandaisugi, then take in breathtaking views at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kusukawa Tenmangu Shrine.

Traveling by combination of bus, flight, and taxi from Motobu-cho to Yakushima-cho takes 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus, flight, ferry, and taxi; or do a combination of bus, flight, train, ferry, and taxi. Traveling from Motobu-cho in January, things will get a bit cooler in Yakushima-cho: highs are around 58°F and lows about 48°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Mon) so you can travel to Kutchan-cho.

Alternatively, you can do a combination of taxi, ferry, flight, and train; or do a combination of taxi, ferry, bus, and train. In January, Kutchan-cho is colder than Yakushima-cho - with highs of 27°F and lows of 22°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
