The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
On the 16th (Sat), take in the spiritual surroundings of Tochoji Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Nanzoin, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Miyajidake Shrine, and finally take an in-depth tour of Munakata Shrine. On the 17th (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kushida Shrine, buy something for everyone on your list at JR Hakata City Amu Plaza Hakata, then appreciate the extensive heritage of Yoshinogari Historical Park, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hakozaki Shrine.

Singapore, Singapore to Fukuoka is an approximately 9-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Singapore to Fukuoka due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Singapore in May, things will get little chillier in Fukuoka: highs are around 28°C and lows about 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sun) to allow enough time to take a train to Kobe.

Walkable, small, and aesthetically charming, Kobe has served as Japan's first and premier international trading outpost since opening to trade with China in the mid-19th century.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Mon): walk around Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park, steep yourself in history at Izanagi Shrine, then get a taste of the local shopping with Kobe Harborland, then see the interesting displays at Kawasaki Good Times World, and finally soak in some Japanese tradition at Arima Onsen. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 19th (Tue): examine the collection at UCC Coffee Museum, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Maya, then view the masterpieces at Tor Gallery, and finally take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Rokko.

Traveling by train from Fukuoka to Kobe takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. Expect slightly colder weather when traveling from Fukuoka in May: highs in Kobe hover around 25°C, while lows dip to 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 19th (Tue) early enough to catch the train to Osaka.

Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
Koyasan Okunoin and Kongobu-ji Temple will appeal to history buffs. Appreciate the collections at Koyasan Reihokan Museum and Nara National Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Osaka: Nara (Kasuga Grand Shrine, Kofuku-ji Temple, & more), Horyu-ji Temple (in Ikaruga-cho) and Koya-cho (Torodo Temple & Koyasan Danjo Garan). It doesn't end there: wander the streets of Dotonbori and take in the spiritual surroundings of Hase-dera Temple.

Osaka is very close to Kobe. While traveling from Kobe, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Osaka, ranging from highs of 29°C to lows of 18°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Fri) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Get some historical perspective at Kinkaku-ji and Nanzen-ji Temple. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Tenryuji Temple and Toji. There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kennin-ji Temple, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, wander the streets of Gion, and contemplate the long history of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine.

Kyoto is just a short distance from Osaka. In May in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 29°C during the day and 17°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 25th (Mon) so you can take a train to Nagoya.

Known nationally as an industrial heartland, Nagoya boasts a far more cosmopolitan and cultural core than its reputation would lead you to believe.
Step off the beaten path and head to Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology and Ise Shrine Geku. Your inner history buff will appreciate Atsuta Jingu Shrine and Nakasendo Magome Walking Trail. Venture out of the city with trips to Inuyama (Inuyama Castle & Little World), Ise (Ise Grand Shrine, Sengukan, & more) and Hikone (Hikone Castle & 玄宮園 - Genkyūen Garden 玄宮園). It doesn't end there: trek along Nakasendo Walking Trail, Tsumagojuku and see the interesting displays at SCMAGLEV and Railway Park.

You can take a train from Kyoto to Nagoya in an hour. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. While traveling from Kyoto, expect little chillier days and about the same nights in Nagoya, ranging from highs of 24°C to lows of 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 29th (Fri) to allow time for travel back home.
