Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
You'll explore and learn at Tokyo National Museum and National Museum of Nature and Science. Get a sense of the local culture at Sensō-ji and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Ghibli Museum Mitaka in Mitaka, about 44 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: wander the streets of Ginza, make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, take in nature's colorful creations at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, and enjoy breathtaking views from Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings.

London, UK to Tokyo is an approximately 15-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 9 hour difference. Traveling from London in April, expect Tokyo to be somewhat warmer, temps between 22°C and 12°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Tue) early enough to travel to Hakone-machi.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Hakone-machi in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Tokyo in April, plan for little chillier days in Hakone-machi, with highs around 15°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 13°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 16th (Thu) so you can travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Nijo Castle and Kinkaku-ji are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Do your shopping at Dotonbori and Nishiki Market. Go for a jaunt from Kyoto to Osaka to see Osaka Castle about 1h 10 min away. The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ginkaku-ji Temple, make a trip to Heian Shrine, and take a stroll through Gion.

Take a train from Hakone-machi to Kyoto in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of flight and train. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Hakone-machi in April: highs in Kyoto hover around 22°C, while lows dip to 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Mon) to allow enough time to take a train to Himeji.
