Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Villa Borghese and Church of St. Louis of the French. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Basilica di San Pietro in Vincoli and Le Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini. Go for a jaunt from Rome to Ostia Antica to see Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica about 42 minutes away. There's lots more to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Santa Maria della Vittoria, explore the ancient world of Terme di Caracalla, make a trip to St. Peter's Square, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Chiesa di Sant'Ignazio di Loyola.

For maps, traveler tips, photos, and more tourist information, refer to the Rome trip itinerary planner.
