A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Visiting Oyunuma and Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort will get you outdoors. Step off the beaten path and head to The Hokkaido University Museum and Doraemon Wakuwaku Sky Park. Explore Sapporo's surroundings by going to Royce' Chocolate World (in Chitose), Noboribetsu (Oyunumagawa Natural Footbath & Katta Shrine) and Furano (Hokkaido Central Mark, Furano Ski Resort, &more). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari Shrine, stroll around Maruyama Park, and take an in-depth tour of Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura).

Explore Hakodate's surroundings by going to Nanae-cho (Onuma Park Walking Path & Onuma Quasi-National Park) and Matsumae-cho (Kouzenji Temple, Matsumae Castle, &more). Getting from Sapporo to Hakodate by flight takes about 3 hours. Other options: drive; or take a train. In May in Hakodate, expect temperatures between 18°C during the day and 11°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Thu) to allow time to travel to Niseko-cho.

Ranking as the most popular ski resort in Hokkaido, mountaintop Niseko-cho boasts great slopes and surprisingly vibrant nightlife.
Explore hidden gems such as Mt. Yotei and Soga Hokuei Stone Circle. Visiting Hokkaido Backcountry Club and Niseko Hanazono Resort will get you outdoors. Venture out of the city with trips to Rusutsu Resort Ski (in Rusutsu-mura) and Shinsennuma (in Kyowa-cho). There's still lots to do: head outdoors with Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area, fly down the slopes at Niseko Village Ski Resort, and explore the activities along Lake Toya.
