A gateway to the island, Hakodate has gained a reputation for its waterfront attractions, its proximity to some of the island's most popular natural sites, and its seafood.
Explore Hakodate's surroundings by going to Michi-no-Eki Shikabe Geyser Park (in Shikabe-cho) and Nanae-cho (Onuma Park Walking Path & Onuma Quasi-National Park). There's much more to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Hakodate, hunt for treasures at Hakodate Morning Market, enjoy breathtaking views from Goryokaku Tower, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Trappistine Monasteries.

Asahikawa

Perched on the confluence of four rivers and surrounded by green hills, Asahikawa combines a modern city experience with the pristine nature nearby.
On the 22nd (Sat), walk around Otokoyama Nature Park, get to know the resident critters at Asahiyama Zoo, relax in the rural setting at Ueno Farm, then take an in-depth tour of Hokuchin Memorial Museum, and finally stroll around Hoppo Yasoen. Here are some ideas for day two: go for a walk through Shikisai no Oka, tour the pleasant surroundings at Shirogane Blue Pond, take in the dramatic scenery at Shirahige Falls, then take a memorable drive along Patchwork no Michi, and finally cruise along Shujitsu no Oka.

Traveling by car from Noboribetsu to Asahikawa takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Noboribetsu in May, plan for somewhat warmer nights in Asahikawa, with lows around 57°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Sun) early enough to drive to Sapporo.

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Venture out of the city with trips to Yoichi-cho (Kakizaki Shoten, Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery, &more) and Otaru (The Site of Temiya Line, Otaru Canal, &more).
