Kutchan-cho

Kutchan-cho's reputation rests on two things: skiing and potatoes.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kutchan-cho: Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery (in Yoichi-cho), Rusutsu Resort Ski (in Rusutsu-mura) and Niseko-cho (Niseko Village Ski Resort & Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area). Traveling by car from Hakodate to Kutchan-cho takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of flight and train. While traveling from Hakodate, expect little chillier days and about the same nights in Kutchan-cho, ranging from highs of 35°F to lows of 30°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Mon) so you can drive to Noboribetsu.

You can drive from Kutchan-cho to Noboribetsu in 2 hours. Other options are to take a train; or take a bus. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Kutchan-cho in March: highs in Noboribetsu hover around 42°F, while lows dip to 31°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Tue) to allow time to travel to Abashiri.

Abashiri

A coastal town with a smattering of things to do, Abashiri has an interesting history and arresting natural scenery.
Start off your visit on the 24th (Wed): make a trip to Kitahama Station, take an in-depth tour of Hokkaido Museum of Northern Peoples, see the interesting displays at Okhotsk Ryu-hyo Museum, take in panoramic vistas at Tentozan Viewing Platform, then don't miss a visit to Abashiri Prison Museum, and finally ponder the world of politics at Abashiri Prison.

Getting from Noboribetsu to Abashiri by flight takes about 5 hours. Other options: drive; or take a train. Traveling from Noboribetsu in March, expect Abashiri to be little chillier, temps between 36°F and 25°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Asahikawa.

Asahikawa

Perched on the confluence of four rivers and surrounded by green hills, Asahikawa combines a modern city experience with the pristine nature nearby.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Thu): get engrossed in the history at Asahikawashi Museum, fly down the slopes at Asahiyama Yuki no Mura, then get to know the resident critters at Asahiyama Zoo, then head outdoors with Canmore Ski Village, and finally get in on the family fun at Asahikawa Ramen Village. You can drive from Abashiri to Asahikawa in 3 hours. Another option is to take a train. In March in Asahikawa, expect temperatures between 33°F during the day and 29°F at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Fri) so you can drive to Sapporo.
