Santiago Atitlán is a municipality in the Sololá department of Guatemala. Kick off your visit on the 6th (Mon): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Colonial Church, examine the collection at Cojolya Museum and Store, and then contemplate the geological forces at Lake Atitlan.

Traveling by car from Antigua to Santiago Atitlan takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of shuttle and ferry; or do a combination of bus and ferry. In July, plan for daily highs up to 77°F, and evening lows to 61°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 6th (Mon) so you can go by car to Quetzaltenango.

Named for the Quetzal bird--one of Guatemala's national symbols--Quetzaltenango once included the territories controlled by K'iche' Mayans, a pre-Columbian tribe eventually supplanted by Spanish conquistadores.
Explore Quetzaltenango's surroundings by going to Retalhuleu (Xocomil & Xetulul Theme Park) and Fuentes Georginas (in Zunil). There's lots more to do: contemplate the geological forces at Santa Maria Volcano, admire the striking features of Teatro Municipal de Quetzaltenango, see the sights as you ascend with a climbing tour, and stop by Chocolate Dona Pancha.

You can drive from Santiago Atitlan to Quetzaltenango in 3 hours. Traveling from Santiago Atitlan in July, expect Quetzaltenango to be slightly colder, temps between 71°F and 49°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Lanquin.

Traveling from Quetzaltenango in July, things will get warmer in Lanquin: highs are around 93°F and lows about 75°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 11th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
