One of the largest resort towns in the Caribbean, Varadero boasts a 20 km (12 mi) long stretch of sand, lined with hotels and all-inclusive resorts.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Varahicacos Ecological Reserve and Mi Casa Beatles. Let the collections at Pharmaceutical Museum and Taller de Ceramica Artistica capture your imagination. Get out of town with these interesting Varadero side-trips: Cuevas de Bellamar (in Matanzas) and Crab Monument (in Cardenas). There's much more to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia Santa Elvira, don't miss a visit to Parque Central, get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Delfinario, and delve into the distant past at Cueva de Ambrosio.

Ottawa, Canada to Varadero is an approximately 7-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and bus. Built on sugar and seemingly preserved in molasses, the town of Trinidad attracts visitors with its well-aged 19th century architecture and rustic charm, showcasing the sounds, scents, and sights of days gone by.
Step out of the city life by going to Topes de Collantes and Salto del Caburni. Get a sense of the local culture at Palacio de Valle and Parque el Cubano. Get out of town with these interesting Trinidad side-trips: Ferrer Palace (in Cienfuegos), Remedios (Museo de Agroindustria Azucarera & Iglesia de San Juan Batista) and Fabrica de Tabacos Costantino Perez Carrodegua (in Santa Clara). There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Convento de San Francisco de Asis, see the interesting displays at Museo de Historia Municipal, take in panoramic vistas at Iznaga Tower, and make a trip to Trinidad de Cuba.

Getting from Varadero to Trinidad by car takes about 4 hours. Other options: take a bus. Plan for a bit warmer nights when traveling from Varadero in January since evenings lows in Trinidad dip to 32°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Thu) early enough to go by car to Camaguey.

On the 24th (Fri), contemplate the long history of Plaza San Juan de Dios, view the masterpieces at Martha Jimenez's Studio Workshop, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Plaza del Carmen, then get to know the fascinating history of Camaguey Centro, and finally make a trip to Plaza de los Trabajadores. On your second day here, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglecia de san juan de dios, take in the exciting artwork at Estudio Galeria Magdiel, pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Carmen, then view the masterpieces at Casa de Arte Jover, and finally examine the collection at Museo Provincial General Ignacio Agramonte.

Plan for a bit cooler nights when traveling from Trinidad in January since evenings lows in Camaguey dip to 21°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 25th (Sat) so you can go by car to Santiago de Cuba.

Cuba's capital and major commercial center, Havana manages to be very old and very modern at the same time.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Church and Convent of St. Francis of Asisi and Museo del Ferrocarril de Cuba.
