Wholeheartedly dedicated to tourism, Hersonissos remains best known for its vibrant nightlife, its bars and clubs attracting partygoers from around the world.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Hersonissos: Lake Voulismeni (in Agios Nikolaos), Heraklion (The Natural History Museum of Crete, Heraklion Archaeological Museum, &more) and Elounda (Spas & Fortress Spinalonga). Ierapetra, Europe's southernmost city, sits on Crete's southwestern coastline and draws attention with its mild weather and award-winning beaches.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Mon): stop by Evotry, enjoy the sand and surf at Paralia Mochlos, then steep yourself in history at Gournia Minoiki Poli, and finally look for all kinds of wild species at Christina Boat. On your second day here, step off the mainland to explore Chrissi Island.

Getting from Hersonissos to Ierapetra by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. Traveling from Hersonissos in August, Ierapetra is a bit warmer at night with lows of 29°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 10th (Tue) so you can go by car to Rethymnon.

When traveling from Ierapetra in August, plan for a bit warmer days in Rethymnon, with highs around 36°C, while nights are a bit cooler with lows around 26°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Sat) early enough to go by car to Chania Town.
