Belitung Island travel guide
Belitung Island boasts some of the best beaches in Indonesia, where shallow, turquoise waters lap white, powdery sands. Granite boulders and outcrops form natural abstract sculptures up and down the coasts. While you could easily spend all day lazing on the island's beaches, paddling in the sea, and dining on fresh seafood cooked in Chinese spices, the better part of most Belitung Island vacations is spent offshore. Over a hundred small islands surround Belitung, almost all uninhabited except for the monkeys, birds, and other tropical wildlife. In between you will discover many coral reefs and a 9th-century shipwreck. A flotilla of colorful boats sit ready to take you island-hopping, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
