A low-rise, laid-back town of approximately 4,500 inhabitants, Margaret River serves as an ideal local base to explore the surrounding wine region.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Margaret River: Meelup Beach (in Dunsborough) and Augusta (Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse & Jewel Cave). And it doesn't end there: sample some tasty brews at a beer tour and tasting, Head underground at Lake Cave, learn about winemaking at Island Brook Estate Winery, and paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour.

Founded as a military outpostĀ in 1826, Albany is the oldest town in Western Australia, just barely gaining this title by being settled two years earlier than Fremantle and Perth.
Get out of town with these interesting Albany side-trips: Denmark (Rising Star Winery, Greens Pool, &more). And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at National Anzac Centre, kick back and relax at Middleton Beach, explore the striking landscape at The Gap and Natural Bridge, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Misery Beach.
