As the state’s second largest city, San Antonio embodies Texas’ rich cultural heritage while maintaining the Old West charm of an oil town.
Escape the urban bustle at Jacob's Well Natural Area and Cascade Caverns. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Briscoe Western Art Museum and Witte Museum. Explore San Antonio's surroundings by going to Dick's Classic Garage (in San Marcos), Duchman Family Winery (in Driftwood) and Fredericksburg (Fischer & Wieser's Das Peach Haus, Grape Creek Vineyards on Main, &more). The adventure continues: appreciate the extensive heritage of King William Historic District, steep yourself in history at The Guenther House Museum, take an in-depth tour of Battle For Texas: The Experience, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at St Joseph Catholic Church.

For where to stay, ratings, photos, and other tourist information, read San Antonio trip itinerary builder site.

A big city with a small-town feel, Portland is home to the country's biggest rose test garden, perched on a hill overlooking downtown.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Willamette Valley and Hug Point State Park. Get a sense of the local culture at Oregon Garden and Alberta Street. Get out of town with these interesting Portland side-trips: Nevor Shellfish Farm (in Tillamook), Seaside Inverted Experience (in Seaside) and Rockaway Beach (Cedar Wetlands Preserve & Rockaway Beach Wayside). There's much more to do: explore the striking landscape at Haystack Rock, stroll around Mount Tabor Park, hike along Forest Park, and take in the dramatic scenery at Latourell Falls.
