Porto

— 13 nights

Unvanquished City

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Explore Porto's surroundings by going to Coimbra (Universidade de Coimbra Alta & Sofia, Jardim Botanico, &more), Povoa de Varzim (Igreja da Lapa, Igreja Matriz de Povoa de Varzim, &more) and Monumento ao Pescador (in Vila do Conde). Dedicate the 16th (Wed) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. On the 10th (Thu), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. There's still lots to do: take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, get the lay of the land with Walking tours, take in panoramic vistas at Torre dos Clerigos, and explore the world behind art at Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis.

To find other places to visit, maps, and other tourist information, refer to the Porto day trip planning site.

In February, daytime highs in Porto are 16°C, while nighttime lows are 7°C.
