Ioannina, often called Yannena within Greece, is the capital and largest city of Epirus, an administrative region in north-western Greece. Start off your visit on the 26th (Wed): explore the historical opulence of Ioannina Castle, then contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Pamvotis, then admire the landmark architecture of Ioannina City Hall, and finally contemplate the waterfront views at Voidomatis River. On your second day here, see the interesting displays at Vrellis Greek History Museum, examine the collection at Silversmithing Museum, and then fly down the slopes at Alpine Zone.

Getting from Parga to Ioannina by car takes about 1.5 hours. Other options: take a bus. August in Ioannina sees daily highs of 39°C and lows of 25°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Thu) early enough to drive to Kalambaka.

The gateway to one of the largest monastery complexes in Greece, the small town of Kalambaka nestles against a landscape of imposing rock formations rising 400 m (1,300 ft) into the air. Nearly leveled during World War II, the town rebuilt and reinvented itself in the post-war period, quickly becoming one of the region's major travel destinations.
Kick off your visit on the 28th (Fri): admire the striking features of Koursoum Mosque, browse the collection at Kalambaka Library, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Monastery of the Great Meteoron, then take in nature's colorful creations at Varlaam Monastery, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada). Here are some ideas for day two: steep yourself in history at Agios Stefanos, take in the spiritual surroundings of Roussanou Monastery, then examine the collection at Digital Projection Centre of Meteora’s History and Culture, and finally don't miss a visit to Meteora.

You can drive from Ioannina to Kalambaka in 2 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Traveling from Ioannina in August, expect Kalambaka to be little chillier, temps between 36°C and 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Afitos.

Vourvourou

Vourvourou is village near Agios Nikolaos, in the Chalkidiki peninsula of northern Greece. Bring the kids along to Kalogria Beach and Orange beach.
