Sheltered in an inlet of Lake Wakatipu, the resort town of Queenstown enjoys a strong reputation for its adventuring and skiing opportunities.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Queenstown Hill and Off-Road Tours. Visiting Wanaka and Arrowtown Village will get you outdoors. When in Queenstown, make a side trip to see Mount Iron Track in Wanaka, approximately 1h 15 min away. Toronto, Canada to Queenstown is an approximately 26-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and flight; or do a combination of shuttle and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 17 hours traveling from Toronto to Queenstown. Finish your sightseeing early on the 18th (Sat) so you can travel to Rotorua.

Step off the beaten path and head to Waimangu Volcanic Valley and River Rafting & Tubing. Get some historical perspective at Buried Village of Te Wairoa and St Michael's Catholic Church. Change things up with these side-trips from Rotorua: Mount Maunganui (Mt Maunganui Main Beach & Mount Maunganui Base Track) and Huka Falls Walkway (in Taupo). There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Redwoods Treewalk, witness a stunning natural landmark at Orakei Korako Geothermal Park & Cave, and trot along with a tour on horseback.

On the 22nd (Wed), Head underground at Waitomo Glowworm Caves, Head underground at Ruakuri Cave, then surround yourself with nature on a nature and wildlife tour, and finally relax in the rural setting at Roselands Farm Park. On your second day here, trek along Ruakuri Walk, Head underground at Caveworld, admire the sheer force of Marakopa Falls, then admire all the interesting features of Mangapohue Natural Bridge Walk, and finally head outdoors with Waitomo Clay Birds.

Get outdoors at Paihia Harbour and Dolphin & Whale Watching. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Pompallier Mission and Printery. Explore Paihia's surroundings by going to Russell (Flagstaff Hill Historic Reserve & Christ Church) and Tane Mahuta Walk (in Opononi).
