The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
You'll explore and learn at Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History and Munakata Shrine. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Nanzoin and Old Ito Denemon House. Change things up with these side-trips from Fukuoka: Miyajidake Shrine (in Fukutsu), Dazaifu Tenman-gu (in Dazaifu) and Tsutsukihama Beach (in Iki). Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 28th (Thu): take in the awesome beauty at Tachudake and then explore the striking landscape of Yakusugi Land.
