Kobe

— 13 nights
Walkable, small, and aesthetically charming, Kobe has served as Japan's first and premier international trading outpost since opening to trade with China in the mid-19th century.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Yamasa Kamaboko Yumesenkan and Naruto Skyline. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kobe: Yomomi Bridge Observatory (in Naruto), Himeji (Onsen Resorts, Hiromine Shrine, &more) and Asago (Awaga Shrine, Ritsuun Gorge, &more). Next up on the itinerary: examine the collection at Takenaka Carpentry Tools Museum, admire the natural beauty at Momijidani Garden, let the kids burn off some steam at Suma Rikyu Park, and don't miss a visit to Taisanji Temple.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Osaka International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Takamatsu Airport. In June, plan for daily highs up to 76°F, and evening lows to 69°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
