Tourism in Shari-cho, a small town situated on Hokkaido's eastern tip, flourishes mainly because of its immediate proximity to the Shiretoko World Heritage Site.
You've now added Iwaobetsu Onsen Rotenburo to your itinerary. On the 3rd (Wed), indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at Iwaobetsu Onsen Rotenburo, contemplate the waterfront views at Shiretoko Goko Lake, then look for all kinds of wild species at Shiretoko Peninsula, and finally take a stroll through Utoro Onsen. Phoenix, USA to Shari-cho is an approximately 28-hour flight. The time zone difference when traveling from Phoenix to Shari-cho is 16 hours. In June, Shari-cho is much colder than Phoenix - with highs of 63°F and lows of 54°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Fri) early enough to go by car to Biei-cho.

Biei-cho

Famous for scenic views of vast fields, wide meadows, and gently rolling hills against the backdrop of the Taisetsu mountain range, Biei-cho offers a picture-prefect setting for a pleasant countryside vacation.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Nupukano Sato and Shirakaba Road. Step out of the city life by going to Shirogane Blue Pond and Shirahige Falls. Change things up with a short trip to Mt. Midori in Kamikawa-cho (about 52 minutes away). The adventure continues: admire the natural beauty at Shikisai no Oka, take in the pleasant sights at Biruke no Mori, and cruise along Patchwork no Michi.

You can drive from Shari-cho to Biei-cho in 4.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of taxi and train; or do a combination of bus and train. While traveling from Shari-cho, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Biei-cho, ranging from highs of 70°F to lows of 56°F. You'll set off for Yakushima-cho on the 9th (Tue).

Yakushima-cho

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
On the 10th (Wed), take in the dramatic scenery at Janokuchinotaki Falls and then discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Biei-cho to Yakushima-cho takes 9.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of car, bus, and ferry. Traveling from Biei-cho in June, things will get a bit warmer in Yakushima-cho: highs are around 79°F and lows about 69°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Wed) to allow time to travel to Takachiho-cho.

Takachiho-cho

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Step out of the city life by going to Ikeyama Springs and Kuju Highland. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Tadewara Wetlands and Okuragahama Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Takachiho-cho: Chinda Fall (in Bungoono) and Mount Atago (in Nobeoka). And it doesn't end there: explore the stunning scenery at Takachiho Gorge, take in the dramatic natural features at Tokubetsuto Rice Terraces, take in the spiritual surroundings of Takachiho Shrine, and go for a walk through Amano Yasugawara.

Getting from Yakushima-cho to Takachiho-cho by combination of ferry, train, and car takes about 6.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of ferry and car; or do a combination of flight and bus. Expect a daytime high around 78°F in June, and nighttime lows around 67°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
