Tokyo to Hiraizumi-cho is an approximately 5.5-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of flight and car. Traveling from Tokyo in December, expect Hiraizumi-cho to be slightly colder, temps between 4°C and -1°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sat) so you can travel to Onna-son.

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Get some cultural insight at Nakagusuku Castle Ruins and Katsuren Castle Ruins. Nakijin Castle Ruins and Okinawa Peace Memorial Park will appeal to history buffs. Venture out of the city with trips to AEONMALL OKINAWA RYCOM (in Kitanakagusuku-son), Araha Park (Araha Beach) (in Chatan-cho) and Sefa-Utaki (in Nanjo). There's much more to do: look for gifts at Onna Station Nakayukui Market, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Okichan Theater, discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and stroll around Okinawa Memorial Park Ocean Expo Park.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Bring the kids along to Kayaking & Canoeing and Toguchi no Hama. Step off the beaten path and head to Scuba & Snorkeling and Wide Market. There's much more to do: visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, stop by Furusato, get outside with Sunayama Beach, and don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape.

Do a combination of bus and flight from Onna-son to Miyakojima in 3.5 hours. Expect somewhat warmer evenings in Miyakojima when traveling from Onna-son in December, with lows around 20°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Fri) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Popular historic sites such as Island Countryside Settlement and Cape Hirakubozaki are in your itinerary. Explore hidden gems such as Yurateiku Market and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. Step out of Ishigaki with an excursion to Canyoning & Rappelling Tours in Iriomote-jima--about 1h 55 min away. A spiritual center of Shintoism, Ise stands as a traditional city where visitors can see the roots of Japanese culture in a number of well-preserved natural and historic sites.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Wed): get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Toba Aquarium, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sarutahiko Shrine, contemplate the long history of Oharai-machi, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tsukiyominomiya, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Ise Shrine Geku. On the 9th (Thu), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: observe the fascinating underwater world at Ise Meotoiwa Interactive Aquarium (Ise Sea Paradise), then get engrossed in the history at Sengukan, then stop by Kutsurogiya, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Mt. Yokoyama Observation Deck.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Ishigaki to Ise in 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight, bus, and train. While traveling from Ishigaki, expect cooler days and a bit cooler nights in Ise, ranging from highs of 9°C to lows of 7°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) so you can catch the train back home.
