Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Get some historical perspective at Tokyo National Museum and Imperial Palace. Get some cultural insight at Edo-Tokyo Museum and Odaiba. There's much more to do: examine the collection at Samurai Museum, admire the landmark architecture of Tokyo Tower, get a sense of history and politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, and don't miss a visit to Meiji Jingu Shrine.

Perth, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone changes from Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Perth in March, you will find days in Tokyo are much colder (17°C), and nights are a bit cooler (7°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 1st (Wed) to allow time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle. Explore hidden gems such as Toji and Chion-in Temple. Take a break from Kyoto with a short trip to Osaka Castle in Osaka, about 1h 10 min away. There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take a stroll through Gion, take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji, and contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In April in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 22°C during the day and 11°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sat) to allow enough time to take a train to Hiroshima.

Traveling by train from Kyoto to Hiroshima takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In April, plan for daily highs up to 22°C, and evening lows to 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Mon) to allow time to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Tue): get great views at Cape Ongazaki, walk around Kabira Park, head outdoors with Yonehara Beach, then head outdoors with Cape Hirakubozaki, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory. Here are some ideas for day two: stroll around Banna Park, take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier, then kick back and relax at Kondoi Beach, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Island Countryside Settlement.

Do a combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Ishigaki in 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. In April, Ishigaki is somewhat warmer than Hiroshima - with highs of 30°C and lows of 24°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Wed) early enough to travel to Miyakojima.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Thu): kick back and relax at Sunayama Beach, snap pictures at Irabu Ohashi, then snap pictures at Ikema Ohashi Bridge, then step off the mainland to explore Shimojiiima Island, and finally head outdoors with Aragusuku Beach. On the next day, don't miss a visit to East Henna Cape, enjoy the sea views from Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse, then snap pictures at Kurima Bridge, then enjoy the sand and surf at Yonaha Maehama Beach, and finally kick back and relax at Toguchi no Hama.
