Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Head to Ginza and Asakusafor some retail therapy. Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Odaiba and Tokyo National Museum. There's still lots to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Senso-ji Temple, take a stroll through Akihabara, admire the natural beauty at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, and examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia to Tokyo is an approximately 9.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of bus and flight. You'll lose 2 hours traveling from Phnom Penh to Tokyo due to the time zone difference. Prepare for colder weather when traveling from Phnom Penh in March: high temperatures in Tokyo hover around 17°C and lows are around 7°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 21st (Thu) so you can travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Popular historic sites such as Nijo Castle and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine are in your itinerary. Do some cultural sightseeing at Gion and Kinkaku-ji. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Kyoto: Nara (Todaiji Temple Cultural Center & Nara Park). The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ginkaku-ji Temple, don't miss a visit to Heian Shrine, and step into the grandiose world of Osaka Castle.

Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and bus; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 16°C in March, and nighttime lows around 5°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 25th (Mon) early enough to take a train to Hiroshima.

Start off your visit on the 26th (Tue): contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Itsukushima Shrine, then steep yourself in history at Itsukushima Shrine Torii, and then step off the mainland to explore Miyajima. On the next day, explore the world behind art at Hiroshima Museum of Art, get engrossed in the history at Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, then don't miss a visit to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, and finally see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.

Getting from Kyoto to Hiroshima by train takes about 2 hours. Other options: drive; or take a bus. In March in Hiroshima, expect temperatures between 16°C during the day and 6°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Wed) early enough to travel to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Cape Hirakubozaki and MInsah Kogei Museum. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Yonehara Beach and Kondoi Beach. There's still lots to do: contemplate the waterfront views at Kabira Bay, kick back and relax at Fusaki Beach, stroll through Akashi Beach, and take an in-depth tour of Ishigaki Yaima Village.

Traveling by combination of train and flight from Hiroshima to Ishigaki takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly. While traveling from Hiroshima, expect somewhat warmer days and much warmer nights in Ishigaki, ranging from highs of 26°C to lows of 21°C. On the 31st (Sun), you'll have the morning to explore before heading back home.
