Miyakojima
A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Visit Tomori Imugya Beach and Yonaha Maehama Beach for some beach relaxation. Visit Miyako Shrine and Harimizu Utaki for their historical value. There's lots more to do: see the vivid underwater world at Yabiji, explore the different monuments and memorials at Nakasone Toyumya Tomb, paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, and enjoy the sand and surf at Nagamahama Beach Coast.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Start off your visit on the 5th (Mon): view the masterpieces at Gallery Kiya, view the masterpieces at Yomitanzanyaki Kitagama, then look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas, then enjoy the sand and surf at Diamond Beach, and finally take in the dramatic natural features at Cape Manzamo. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shirumichu, then kick back and relax at Tiger Beach, and then explore the fascinating underground world of Blue Cave.

You can fly from Onna-son to Kyoto in 5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of ferry and train. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Asakusa Shrine and Hokokuji Temple (Takedera Temple). Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Meigetsuin (Hydrangea Temple) and Hie Jinjya. Step out of Tokyo with an excursion to Kencho-ji Temple in Kamakura--about 1h 15 min away.
