Virtually unchanged for the last six centuries, Venice is actually a group of islands made famous by a series of canals, bridges, monuments, piazzas, and narrow pedestrian lanes.
Bring the kids along to Canal Grande and Ponte di Rialto. Get out of town with these interesting Venice side-trips: Padua (Scrovegni Chapel & Basilica di Sant’Antonio). And it doesn't end there: get to know the fascinating history of Piazza San Marco, pause for some photo ops at Punta della Dogana, steep yourself in history at St Mark's Campanile, and explore the galleries of Doge's Palace.

Manchester, UK to Venice is an approximately 5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or take a train. The time zone changes from Greenwich Mean Time to Central European Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Traveling from Manchester in September, expect Venice to be a bit warmer, temps between 29°C and 17°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 9th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Milan.

Start off your visit on the 10th (Thu): admire the landmark architecture of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Duomo di Milano, and then admire the striking features of Castello Sforzesco.
