The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Explore Fukuoka's surroundings by going to Dazaifu (Dazaifu Monzen Machi & Dazaifu Tenman-gu), Kumamoto (Kumamoto Prefectural Library, Kumamoto Culture and History Museum & Kumamoto Castle) and Komenoyama Obsevatory (in Sasaguri-machi). And it doesn't end there: go for a walk through Ohori Park, take in nature's colorful creations at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park, observe the fascinating underwater world at Marine World umino-nakamichi, and get engrossed in the history at Fukuoka City Museum.

Kagoshima sits across the bay from Sakurajima, an active volcano that serves as a symbol of the city and works its way into many aspects of life here.
Kagoshima is known for nature, museums, and historic sites. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: go for a walk through Sengan-en, browse the different shops at AMU PLAZA KAGOSHIMA, take in panoramic vistas at Shiroyama Observatory, and don't miss a visit to Temmonkan Mujyaki.

Traveling by train from Fukuoka to Kagoshima takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or fly. In June, daytime highs in Kagoshima are 28°C, while nighttime lows are 22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Sun) to allow time to take a train to Okayama.

A major transit hub in western Japan, Okayama provides a convenient mid-point between Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima.
Venture out of the city with trips to Hiroshima (Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, Atomic Bomb Dome, &more), Himeji (Koko-en, Himeji Castle, &more) and Takamatsu (Ritsurin Garden & Kikugetsutei).
