City of Yatai

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Bring the kids along to Kushida Shrine and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Dazaifu (Komyozen-ji Temple & Dazaifu Tenman-gu). Next up on the itinerary: admire the striking features of Hakata Station, get engrossed in the history at Hakatamachiya Furusatokan, head off the coast to Nokonoshima Island, and take a stroll through Nishijin Shopping District.

Adelaide, Australia to Fukuoka is an approximately 19-hour flight. You'll gain 0.5 hours traveling from Adelaide to Fukuoka due to the time zone difference. In August, Fukuoka is much hotter than Adelaide - with highs of 38°C and lows of 29°C. On the 8th (Sun), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can drive to Itoshima.
