Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Step off the beaten path and head to Nuuksio National Park and Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to Sapokka Water Garden (in Kotka) and Porvoo (Cathedral of Porvoo, Porvoo Old Town, & more). Although predominately an industrial town, Imatra boasts a long and impressive history of tourism, largely owing to its fierce rapids, considered to have been Finland's first ever tourist attraction.
Kick off your visit on the 2nd (Mon): see the interesting displays at Lappeenranta Fortress, step into the grandiose world of Sandcastle Lappeenranta, then explore the activities along Saimaa Canal, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at Lemin kirkko. On your second day here, pause for some serene contemplation at De tre korsens kyrka, then pause for some serene contemplation at Rautjarven kirkko, then enjoy the sand and surf at Lempukka Beach, and finally admire the sheer force of Imatra Waterfall.
