Aalborg, is Denmark's fourth biggest city with an urban population of 136.000 (including 22.000 in the twin city Nørresundby 600 meters across the Limfjorden. Get a sense of the local culture at Lindholm Hoeje Museum and Drachmanns Hus. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Moesgaard Museum and Skagens Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Aalborg: Pergolaen ved at the Town Hall (in Aarhus), Skagen (Rabjerg Mile & Grenen) and Rubjerg Knude (in Lokken). The capital of the island of Funen, Odense represents the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, who penned such classics as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling." Denmark's third-largest city proudly displays its link to the famous writer with museums, sculptures, and public art installations dedicated to Andersen and his stories.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to The Danish Railway Museum and Brende Molle. Do some cultural sightseeing at The Funen Village and Egeskov Castle.
