Santiago de Cuba has taken almost as much influence from Haiti and the Dominican Republic as it has from Havana, distilling a concoction of cultures to create a city with a distinct identity.
Kick off your visit on the 19th (Sun): stroll the grounds of Cementerio Santa Ifigenia, get engrossed in the history at Casa de Diego Velazquez, step into the grandiose world of Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca, then don't miss a visit to Casa Museo Granjita de Siboney, and finally take a memorable drive along La Gran Piedra (The Big Rock).

The stress of modern life feels a million miles away when you holiday on Cayo Largo, a small and unspoiled resort island off the coast of Cuba.
On the 20th (Mon), look for all kinds of wild species at Sea Turtle Hatchery and then stroll through Playa Paraiso. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: trot along with a tour on horseback and then appreciate the views at Valle de Vinales.

Built on sugar and seemingly preserved in molasses, the town of Trinidad attracts visitors with its well-aged 19th century architecture and rustic charm, showcasing the sounds, scents, and sights of days gone by.
Visiting Topes de Collantes and Parque el Cubano will get you outdoors. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Palacio de Valle and Museo de Historia Municipal. Change things up with a short trip to Ferrer Palace in Cienfuegos (about 1h 25 min away). There's much more to do: trot along with a tour on horseback, kick back and relax at Ancon Beach, take in the dramatic scenery at Salto del Caburni, and examine the collection at Romance Museum.

One of the largest resort towns in the Caribbean, Varadero boasts a 20 km (12 mi) long stretch of sand, lined with hotels and all-inclusive resorts.
You'll get in some beach time at Varadero Beach and Coral Beach - Playa Coral. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Varahicacos Ecological Reserve and Nature & Wildlife Tours. When in Varadero, make a side trip to see Cuevas de Bellamar in Matanzas, approximately 50 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: tee off at Varadero Golf Club, explore the ancient world of Cueva de Ambrosio, explore the world behind art at Mi Casa Beatles, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia Santa Elvira.

You can drive from Trinidad to Varadero in 4 hours. Another option is to take a bus. Traveling from Trinidad in January, plan for little chillier nights in Varadero, with lows around 62°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Mon) so you can drive to Havana.

Havana

Cuba's capital and major commercial center, Havana manages to be very old and very modern at the same time.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Malecón of Havana and Old Square (Plaza Vieja). Explore hidden gems such as Palacio De Los Capitanes Generales and Church and Convent of St. Francis of Asisi. There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Wildlife Areas, don't miss a visit to Plaza de la Catedral, examine the collection at Museo de las Telecomunicaciones de la Habana "ETECSA", and contemplate the long history of Revolution Plaza.
