Chambéry is a city in the department of Savoie, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. It is the capital of the department and has been the historical capital of the Savoy region since the 13th century, when Amadeus V, Count of Savoy, made the city his seat of power.Together with other Alpine towns Chambéry engages in the Alpine Town of the Year Association for the implementation of the Alpine Convention to achieve sustainable development in the Alpine Arc. Discover out-of-the-way places like La Tournette and Sanctuaire de Notre Dame de La Salette. Get outdoors at Lac Vert and Voie Verte du Lac d'Annecy. Get out of town with these interesting Chambery side-trips: Site Naturel du Cirque de Saint-Meme (in Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont), Cite Medievale de Conflans (in Albertville) and Doussard (Flyeo & Reserve Naturelle du Bout du Lac). There's still lots to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Chambéry Cathedral, head outdoors with Grotte et Cascade de Seythenex, steep yourself in history at Le Chemin du Calvaire, and fly like a bird with a parasailing or paragliding tour.
