Cartagena

City of Heroes

The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
Get some historical perspective at Walled City of Cartagena and Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas. Get in touch with nature at Playa Blanca and Boating Cartagena. Go for a jaunt from Cartagena to Isla Baru to see Aviario Nacional de Colombia about 50 minutes away. Spend the 27th (Sun) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Plaza Santo Domingo, make a trip to Torre del Reloj, admire the landmark architecture of Las Bovedas, and examine the collection at Caribe Jewelry Museum & Factory.

To find photos, traveler tips, ratings, and other tourist information, use the Cartagena day trip planning website.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Rafael Nuñez International Airport and Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport. In January, daily temperatures in Cartagena can reach 88°F, while at night they dip to 75°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 8th (Fri) early enough to travel back home.
