The capital of the state of Kedah on the west coast of the Malaysian Peninsula, Alor Setar ranks as the tenth-largest city in Malaysia by population.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Gallery and Wat Nikrodharam. Kedah Royal Museum and Jalan Besar are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Explore Alor Setar's surroundings by going to Sungai Batu Archaeological Site (in Bedong), Kangar (Bukit Cenderawasih, Snake And Reptile Farm, &more) and Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum (in Merbok). The adventure continues: browse the different shops at Aman Central, take in the spiritual surroundings of Zahir Mosque, learn about winemaking at Beris Lake Vineyard, and stroll through Pantai Merdeka.

To see where to stay, other places to visit, reviews, and tourist information, go to the Alor Setar trip itinerary maker tool.

If you are flying in from Sweden, the closest major aiports are Langkawi International Airport, Penang International Airport and Sultan Azlan Shah Airport. Expect a daytime high around 37°C in June, and nighttime lows around 29°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 14th (Sun) early enough to travel back home.
