The small city of Hokuto sits amid some big scenery.
Get in touch with nature at Nakasendo Walking Trail and Kurumayama Highland. Venture out of the city with trips to Lake Shirakaba (in Chino) and Suwa Shrine (in Suwa). Next up on the itinerary: brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Suntory Distillery・Suntory Hakushu Distillery, walk around Makiba Park, and get to know the fascinating history of Shingenbomichi.

Nagoya to Hokuto is an approximately 3.5-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or do a combination of bus and train. In May in Hokuto, expect temperatures between 26°C during the day and 18°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 21st (Tue) early enough to travel to Koshu.
