Kick off your visit on the 31st (Sun): look for gifts at Woodgreen Community Shop, stroll through Hengistbury Head Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Bournemouth Beach. Keep things going the next day: look for all kinds of wild species at Monkey World and then kick back and relax at Weymouth Beach.

Fort William is the second largest settlement in the Highlands of Scotland with around 10,000 inhabitants – and the largest town: only the city of Inverness is larger.Fort William is a major tourist centre, with Glen Coe just to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, on the Road to the Isles. On the 4th (Thu), take in the awesome beauty at Nevis Range Mountain Resort, hike along Lost Valley Trail, and then identify plant and animal life at Highland Titles Nature Reserve. On the 5th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire the sheer force of Inchree Waterfalls, then stop by Argyll Pottery, and then identify plant and animal life at Ariundle Oakwood National Nature Reserve.

Drive from Isle of Skye to Fort William in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Fri) early enough to travel to Durness.

Ullapool is a village of around 1,500 inhabitants in Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands. Bring the kids along to Achmelvich Beach and Clachtoll Beach Campsite. Take a break from the city and head to Inverpolly Nature Reserve and Ullapool Hill.
