Lying in the Tamar Valley and surrounded by forested hills, the grid-patterned city of Launceston boasts shaded avenues, vibrant street life, and a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
You'll visit kid-friendly attractions like Seahorse World and Tasmazia & The Village of Lower Crackpot. Get out of town with these interesting Launceston side-trips: Gunns Plains Caves (in Gunns Plains), Ben Lomond Ski Resort (in Ben Lomond National Park) and Preston Falls (in Ulverstone). Adelaide to Launceston is an approximately 6.5- hour combination of flight and bus. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. The time zone difference moving from Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) to Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) is 0.5 hours. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Adelaide in July: high temperatures in Launceston hover around 13°C and lows are around 2°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 7th (Tue) so you can drive to Coles Bay.

Bring the kids along to Coles Bay Jetty and Wineglass Bay. Venture out of the city with trips to Melshell Oyster Shack (in Dolphin Sands) and Spiky Beach Conservation Area (in Swansea).
