Xinbei, also known as New Taipei City, stands as a newly founded part of the wider Taipei metropolitan area, stretching up from the capital to the island's northern coast.

A rainy port city close to the capital, Keelung appeals to visitors with its famous night market and wealth of historic structures.
Kick off your visit on the 7th (Sat): walk around Keelung Zhong Zheng Park. On the 8th (Sun), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Dianji temple, step off the mainland to explore Heping Island Park, make a trip to Keelung Harbor, then walk around Zhongzheng Park, and finally make a trip to Keelung Maritime Plaza.

You can drive from Keelung to Dongshan in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In December in Dongshan, expect temperatures between 23°C during the day and 18°C at night. On the 11th (Wed), you're off to Hualien.
