Ullapool is a village of around 1,500 inhabitants in Ross-shire, Scottish Highlands. Start off your visit on the 8th (Thu): identify plant and animal life at Knockan Crag National Nature Reserve, then step into the grandiose world of Ardvreck Castle, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Achmelvich Beach. You can drive from Glencoe to Ullapool in 3.5 hours. In August, plan for daily highs up to 20°C, and evening lows to 11°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Fri) so you can travel to Durness.

Durness is a village and civil parish in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. Kick off your visit on the 10th (Sat): don't miss a visit to Cairn House Gallery, then kick back and relax at Sandwood Bay Beach, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Balnakeil Beach. On the next day, take in the exciting artwork at Mudness Ceramics, then view the masterpieces at Balnakeil Craft Village, then stroll through Durness Beach, and finally stroll through Sango Bay.

Getting from Ullapool to Durness by car takes about 2 hours. In August, daytime highs in Durness are 20°C, while nighttime lows are 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Sun) so you can drive to Inverness.

Inverness, often described as the Gateway to the Highlands, is a thriving commercial and industrial center.

Venture out of the city with trips to Landmark Forest Adventure Park (in Carrbridge) and Foyers (Hillside Path & River Foyers). There's still lots to do: have some family-friendly fun at Wildwoodz, don't miss a visit to Culloden Battlefield, and get some thrills on the water with a speed boat tour.
