As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Kick off your visit on the 11th (Sun): witness a stunning natural landmark at Caldeira das Furnas, take in the dramatic natural features at Poca Da Dona Beija, then explore the striking landscape at Caldeira das Sete Cidades, and finally take some stellar pictures from Boca do Inferno Viewpoint. On the 12th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: make a trip to Portas da Cidade and then get interesting insight from Tours.

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Do your shopping at Museu Calouste Gulbenkian and Garrafeira Nacional. Go for a jaunt from Lisbon to Colares to see Cabo da Roca about 42 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: take a stroll through Belém Tower, go for a walk through Avenida da Liberdade, browse the different shops at Amoreiras Shopping Center, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mosteiro dos Jeronimos.

The allure of the beaches and the town's historical center draw visitors to Lagos, a coastal destination in the Barlavento region of the Algarve.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Ponta Da Piedale and Praia da Marinha. Visiting Falesia Beach and Praia Dona Ana will get you outdoors. Venture out of the city with trips to Algarve (in Silves) and Praia dos Olhos de Água (in Olhos de Agua). And it doesn't end there: get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour, look for gifts at Casa do "Vo" Serafim, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Praia do Camilo.

Traveling by car from Lisbon to Lagos takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of flight and bus. In August, plan for daily highs up to 34°C, and evening lows to 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sun) early enough to drive to Tavira.

On the 19th (Mon), stop by Canastra, then enjoy the sand and surf at Praia do Barril, and then enjoy the sand and surf at Cabanas de Tavira beach. Here are some ideas for day two: get a taste of the local shopping with Tavira d'Artes, step off the mainland to explore Tavira Island, and then get up close to creatures of the deep with a dolphin and whale watching tour.

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Kick off your visit on the 21st (Wed): pause for some serene contemplation at Igreja da Ordem Terceira de São Francisco, take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, get into the urban bustle at Palacio da Bolsa, then take in the exciting artwork at Belomonte 20, and finally stop by Quinta da Foz Garrafeira & Gourmet. On the next day, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Bom Jesus do Monte, get lost in a book at Livraria Lello, and then stroll through Praia do Carneiro.
