Porto

— 12 nights

Unvanquished City

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Porto: Vila do Conde (Convento de Santa Clara, Vila do Conde Porto Fashion Outlet, &more), Igreja de Santa Maria de Azurara (in Azurara) and Elevador do Bom Jesus do Monte (in Braga). Dedicate the 4th (Thu) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. On the 10th (Wed), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. There's still lots to do: take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Torre dos Clerigos, examine the collection at Museu Nacional de Machado de Castro, and steep yourself in history at Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral).

For maps, more things to do, where to stay, and other tourist information, go to the Porto trip website.

If you are flying in from Spain, the closest major aiport is Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport. In March in Porto, expect temperatures between 18°C during the day and 9°C at night.
