Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
On the 17th (Fri), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, then ponder the design of Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor), then contemplate the long history of Huaca Pucllana, and finally stroll around Parque Kennedy - Parque Central de Miraflores.

San Juan, Puerto Rico to Lima is an approximately 8-hour flight. Traveling from San Juan to Lima, you'll gain 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
On the 18th (Sat), admire the striking features of Centro Historico De Cusco. On the next day, stop by Hilo, then admire the masterpieces at Museo de Arte Precolombino, then explore the ancient world of Sacsayhuaman, and finally contemplate the long history of Plaza de Armas.

You can fly from Lima to Cusco in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Lima in January, you will find days in Cusco are slightly colder (22°C), and nights are much colder (9°C). Wrap up your sightseeing on the 20th (Mon) early enough to travel to Machu Picchu.

Located on the Ica River in the desert areas of Peru's southern coast, the city of Ica stands as something of an oasis in the dry, barren landscape.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Nasca Lines as well as Oasis of Huacachina. Step out of Ica to go to Paracas and see Islas Ballestas, which is approximately 1h 50 min away.
